Mum's plea: 'Don't miss MMR' jab

The mother of a boy who nearly died because he had not had the MMR vaccine has urged parents to get their children inoculated.

The mother made the desperate plea following the news of Brighton and Hove’s measles outbreak this week.

She said confusion over the research by Dr Andrew Wakefield in the 1990s, which suggested the jabs could cause autism and bowel cancer, had convinced her not to allow her child to be inoculated.

However the 15-year-old was left in intensive care after being struck down with mumps.

His mother, who asked not to be named, said : "The doctor said to me it that if he didn’t have the MMR he would probably be okay because there would never be an epidemic.

"But this spread of measles shows that too many parents didn’t get the vaccines and children are going to get sick.

“Last year there was a mumps outbreak and my son was in intensive care. This year it’s measles.

"Because I didn’t let him have the MMR he was at risk of diseases that can be fatal. I would say to any parent, ‘Don’t take that risk’.”

Last year Dr Wakefield was found guilty of serious professional misconduct by the General Medical Council (GMC) and struck off the general medical register.

The GMC ruled that he acted in a “dishonest”, “misleading” and “irresponsible” way during his research into a possible link between the MMR vaccine, bowel disease and autism.

Could we at least have details of this boys previous health, whether he'd recieved other vaccines etc. Also whether he was immune supressed. Why was he hospitalised? This is scaremongering at it's worst and we're given so little information. Healthy kids don't have serious complications if disease is treated properly, my daughter is testament to this, she was fine with measles and her health was far better afterwards. In Chinese medicine measles is seen as a necessary disease and children develope flourish afterwards. My homeopath has helped me throughout my daughters life if l've had any physical os emotional problems, she's never had antibiotics.
To balance this article we should hear about the parents who have children who are effected by vaccines, this is too one-sided and not enough information.

to add to this, as someone who wasn't allowed the jab as a kid, i was fortunate (ha. ha.) enough to contract mumps at the age of 21.
interesting side effects of mumps not experienced as frequently or severely by children.. it can cause swelling in other places than just the neck.
if you don't want to run the risk of your son spending a week in hospital sampling the joys of injections into the buttocks, suppository painkillers, and 24/7 burning agony with a testicle the size of a small lemon and a question mark over his ability to procreate, LET THEM GET THE DARNED JAB.

Exactly. To do otherwise is irresponsible.

Of course you do know that vaccines aren't completely effective, also 'if' any immunity is gained through childhood vaccines it is not known how long this lasts. Therefore adults could be at risk from these mild childhood diseases, are adults being pressured into being vaccinated with the MMR jab? If adults didn't have measles as a child and therefore don't have immunity then why aren't they having the MMR jab?

I would like to make a plea .

Please if you have a child with a cold or cough then do not send them to school ,
or take them on a bus or to the supermarket..

Also if any adult has a cold or cough then please stay at home .
Do not go around spreading your germs or your childs germs everywhere.

You may think it is just a cold but it could cause serious side effects or even be a
potentially fatal infectious disease to someone else .

We should all be aware of the danger of it sweeping across Brighton and Hove and all
Infected people should stay at home .

The child that had the serious case of Mumps...
1. Did not have a suppressed immune system... Very very fit.... Contracted the disease whilst playing semi pro football in Southampton.
2. Mother was concerned about the comments made by the "Mad Comments" made by the so called professional in the field that was proved so very wrong!
3. Mother felt so gulity after what happened due to the MMR not being given to her child and that he was so very ill and nearly died that as soon as he recovered had him vacinated!
4. Mother would urge other Mothers to have all children vacinated as it weighs out the complications of these infectious diseases spreading!

Surely letting the children of 'truthers' and other idiots get serious diseases like measles and mumps is just Darwinism in action?

As you don't know the difference between 'effect' and 'affect' I think 'unimformed' would be more appropriate

Most of the mothers who complain that their children have become "autistic" are just typical prejudiced norms with a Cassandra complex, intent on persecuting aspies. Hopefully there'll come a time when this kind of abuse is no longer tolerated.

Maybe having children vaccinated is a way of reducing the increasingly overcrowded planet? Darwinism via poisoning?

Yes, precisely, that's why populations have plummeted across the planet after the elimination of infectious diseases such as smallpox, polio and dyptheria...

...OH WAIT!

Except that deaths from measles plummeted BEFORE the vaccine was introduced.

As someone that suffered a permanent hearing loss due to mumps at the age of 5 (no underlying problems, healthy consistution etc) I'd urge all parents to immunise their children so they don't suffer consequences like I did.

Just because it says that on David Ikye's website doesn't mean it's true :)

I suppose you also want the chlorination of water banned, so we can all get nice natural cholera again?

All l'm saying is every parent should read through vaccine inserts before a vaccine is given, ask the doctor or nurse to show you. All good parents check information on the leaflet inside any medicine before they administer it to themselves or their children. Also l'd suggest reading up about it, there are lots of good books available, some written by doctors on the subject. Then at least you know what could happen if you do vaccinate, and you'll also be aware of actual facts rather than newspaper articles based on not much at all. Everyone has the right to choose whether to vaccinate their own child as the parent has to live with the consequences whatever that might be. Please feel free to point out any spelling mistakes etc. :)

This is total broken logic, just part of the bogus "Freedom of Choice" dogma of capitalism ... apparently "every parent" (no matter how many O-levels they failed) should have the right to read a rubbish random selection of tertiary sources about vaccination, heedless of their currency or bias, and "make their own judgement", as if 2 + 2 can indeed equal 5 if you're "worth it".

Drivel! The research was already done decades ago. The risks of an adverse reaction to a vaccine are orders of magnitude smaller than the risk of an epidemic of the disease. In fact they're probably considerably smaller than the risk of being run over by a bus on the way to the GP's surgery. The end!

However lets look beyond the hype and emotional blackmail and scaremogering here to the facts. In a recent Mumps outbreak in Wales over 90% of those who contracted the disease had had the MMR vaccine. 20 of the 23 cases were fully immunised with 2 doses of MMR. Most of the cases should have been among the non vaccinated if they were telling the truth about the vaccines efficacy. Look at the facts not the hype and the emotional non scientific drama. the vaccine also as it only offers non life long protection means adults are more prone to it later life when it is more serious.

Yes but I have to say it again - just because you read about it on David Icke's website DOESN'T MAKE IT TRUE!

Why on earth are you speaking of David Icke, where did he come into the equation?

My facts are sourced from the BMJ, Lancet, Scientific Papers, where do you obtain your information? You really do have some 'issues', l'd get down to the doctor for some anti-psychotic meds, or at least some Diazepam, that should help. Chip on shoulder, much?

Scientific Papers, eh? Woo! Published by BIG PHARMA, were they? lol
