Worthing's woolly phone box cover up

Worthing's woolly phone box Worthing's woolly phone box Buy this photo »

The weather might be turning chilly but this phone box is keeping cosy.

The knitted phone booth is making a stir as Worthing’s smallest entertainment venue.

Worthing Borough Council and Worthing Arts Council (WAC) have taken over the disconnected K6 kiosk, but there is nothing woolly about their plans to make it the county’s smallest gallery.

Inside the cosy exterior of the defunct phone box there are knitted birds and bees are nesting in the woollen landscape.

WAC will be organising a calendar of events for the phone box.

This is hardly news!

They have been doing this all over the country for years, 2009 in Settle (N. Yorks), Powys (wales), Ely (Cambridgeshire), Glendaruel (Scotland)....

Oh well, at least Worthing is now only a few years behind the rest of us....

It's still pretty cool and cute though :)

Nice to see the woolly cosy phonebox. Pity you've credited the wrong people behind it though... it's nothing to do with Worthing Borough Council - and WAC have only rented the box out - the people you need to credit with all their hard work is Blueprint 22 and the Wool bar. (They both have facebook pages.)

Hope to see a correction appear soon.

I am the founder of the youth organisation Blueprint 22 the group that is responsible for this exhibition.

We are really disheartened to see Worthing Borough Council and WAC taking the credit here - it was nothing to do with either group other than the rental of the box.

This was an inter-generational knitting project for young and older people to share skills and was kindly funded by The Wool Bar in Worthing.

No one from The Argus bothered to contact us and yet others once again take the credit for the work of positive young people in our community!

Shameful!

We would really appreciate a correction to this inaccurate and misleading article.

If you want to know more about the work of Blueprint 22 then we are on facebook.

Blueprint is a fantastic Organisation run by young people and for young people, what a shame that this was not the focus of this piece and more so that the credit for this work has not gone to the correct people.. Shoddy reporting methinks

One can only imagine the hours of hard work, first to make, and then to put this together. Shame on the Argus if they have cut corners again and not done their research properly. Those poor kids must have been so proud to see their work featured in the paper followed by disappointment and disbelief to see others taking the credit. Come on Argus. Sort yourselves out! You're supposed to represent the people of Sussex

As someone who took part in this amazing project I was very disappointed to read that the Argus could not be bothered to LOOK at the BANNER and find out more about Blueprint 22 and The Wool Bar! Shame on them as well as WAC and WBC for misrepresentation.
