Debt collectors are being hired because so many people have run up debts they cannot repay.

Business is booming at Worthing-based debt collection company BCW Group, meaning the firm is planning to hire 20 new staff.

The credit management company has already doubled the size of its office at Ridgeworth House in Worthing this year and in July announced plans to recruit an extra 100 staff over the next 12 months.

The latest vacancies will be for part-time staff to work as debt collectors in the evenings and weekends.

The company said it was able to expand so much because of “an increased demand for its services”.

BCW Group has grown over recent years after branching out from corporate debt recovery into consumer credit management – clawing back unpaid credit card bills and council tax payments.

It is thought the rise in the number of people falling into debt during the economic downturn has helped the debt collection business to grow.

They are hoping to give a boost to those who struggle to find work a boost with the positions which offer flexible working hours, evening and weekend shifts.
