Two people have been arrested after a 16-year-old boy was threatened with a gun.

Police were called to Peterborough Road, Crawley, shortly before 9pm yesterday.

Earlier that evening officers had gone to the street after 25 youths reportedly tried to break into a house in the road.

The 16-year-old boy is believed to have been punched at some point during the evening.

Firearms officers visited a property in Thatchers Close, Crawley, at about midnight and arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of aiding and abetting a firearms offence and actual bodily harm (ABH).

A 53-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting a firearms offence. No firearms were discharged.

Detective Sergeant Alex Lowe, from West Sussex CID, said: “It is believed that the victim and offenders in this offence are all known to each other and that at no point were any members of the public at risk of harm.

“Officers are still working to establish the exact sequence of events last night and at this stage no firearm has been recovered.

“It is believed a third person may have been involved in this incident and police are currently trying to trace him.”
