Record-breaking pantomime season in Worthing

Darren Day, Amanda Barrie and John Lyons have helped smash box office records with their pantomime performances.

The trio of TV stars have helped Worthing Theatres achieve their best ever ticket sales for their festive shows.

Peter Pan, starring former Butlin’s Redcoat Darren Day, has already broken the record for the most tickets sold for any panto at the Pavilion Theatre.

Coronation Street’s Amanda Barrie and Touch of Frost’s John Lyons, who are both in Cinderella at the Connaught Theatre, have helped Worthing Theatres sell 42,700 tickets so far – more than any other entire pantomime season.

I’m A Celebrity contestant Darren said he was “delighted” to break the record.

He added: “We are all enjoying the show, and I think the audience senses that, because their response has been amazingly warm. Worthing has welcomed me, and all the cast, with open arms, and in return we will deliver the best of panto fun.”

The two theatres are still selling an average 500 tickets a day, so are hoping to have set an even higher record by the New Year.

Worthing Theatres’ head of sales and marketing, Kim Fleming, said: “We are extremely happy with the success of this year’s pantomimes, which have proven that traditional and festive shows are even more popular than ever."

It's only because Monty Python is on a Brighton this year rather than the usual pantomime, so people have flocked to Worthing. So it's not down to the 2-bob actors.

Probably because Brighton does not have a panto this year

Regardless of whether they have or not have a Panto at Brighton this year, I went to see Cinderella this week and it was a fantastic performance. Really very good. And no I don't work or know anyone from the theatres.

Now they just need to focus on putting quality on throughout the year, reduce the 'tat' like tribute acts and maybe the theatres will have more success.

We went to see Peter Pan on Monday night and I must admit that it was actually really good fun - and it was much better than previous years! We got tickets for £9 each, the kids loved it and it was a cheap night out! For a bit of Christmas cheer and a treat for the kids, I would definitely recommend it!
