Sussex fears over blood stocks

Experts in Sussex fear major events such as the Olympics and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee next year will lead to a significant drop in blood donations.

NHS Blood and Transplant warned a "perfect storm" could be created in 2012 by special events, extra bank holidays and a bumper sporting calendar.

It said thousands fewer people donated blood due to bank holidays around Easter and the royal wedding.

It is now calling on people across the county to make a New Year's resolution and become a blood donor.

Anyone interested in donating blood can call 0300 123 23 23 or visit the www.blood.co.uk website.

rubbish reporting stolen from national news! The only difference of any note is that the argus reporter (from their armchair) has added a Sussex impact in there instead of a National impact. Rubbish, lazy reporting.

Maybe if the National Blood Service lifted its ridiculous blanket ban on donations from any man who's ever had sex with another man, they might have less of a problem.

My last 3 appointments had to be cancelled because either there were too few stretchers available due to NHS staff illness or they were simply so overbooked that they were running 1-2 hours behind schedule or there were no appointment times left despite the fact I called the same day my appointment letters arrive. Personally I think someone (at the NHS) needs to take a look at the whole structure, they could easily get more stocks with better organisation. My re-scheduled appointment is next week. I will see what happens.
