Extra time has been given for families to have their say on plans to scrap free transport to faith schools.

Brighton and Hove City Council is considering scrapping the subsidy as it would save it nearly £68,000 a year.

The local authority has now confirmed a planned paper to be brought to its cabinet meeting this week has been deferred.

The deadline for responding to the consultation on proposed changes to home to school transport to church aided schools is now March 9.

Based on current figures, if the free passes were scrapped it would affect 277 pupils at Cardinal Newman Catholic School and seven at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Primary School in Rottingdean.
