A mugger distracted his victim by pinching her bottom, police believe.
The attack happened in Hollingdean Road, Brighton, at about 1.40am on Friday, January 27.
The victim said she became aware a man had crossed the road and was approaching her from behind.
She said he groped her with one hand and tried to grab her handbag with the other.
She managed to push him away. The man was described as Asian, wearing a green parka-style coat.
