AM I the only one increasingly bewildered by the Labour Party’s apparent abandonment of any environmental credentials? In its latest attack, Councillor Gill Mitchell complains about the state of the local environment report being a waste of council resources (The Argus, January 17).

Yet, looking at Brighton and Hove City Council’s website, it is the City Sustainability Partnership which has led on this report and my understanding is it has paid for it as well. Not only that but Coun Mitchell is a member of this partnership and involved in its decision-making processes. So is Coun Mitchell complaining about her own decisions, or is she simply trying to score political points?

As for spending resources on what Coun Mitchell refers to as “pet projects”, surely a report which can be used to inform policies to protect the health and wellbeing of city residents can only be a positive thing? So, a plea to Coun Mitchell: please abandon what seems like a tactic of point-scoring and work together with your colleagues to provide a safer and healthier future for us all.
