Elvis has left the court building – and headed straight for the cells.

Yesterday (January 27) fancy dress bookmakers bandit Martin Reilly, who dressed up as Elvis for one raid, admitted a series of gunpoint robberies.

He was told he faced the Jailhouse Rock, but did not appear All Shook Up about it.

Reilly, who admitted threatening staff at bookmakers in Brighton, Hove and Eastbourne with an imitation firearm, remained passive in the dock at Lewes Crown Court.

Wearing a beige fleece and bald, 53-year-old Reilly was barely recognisable from CCTV footage of him.

He was captured on video targeting William Hill in George Street, Hove, on July 7 last year, wearing a bushy ginger beard and woolly red bobble hat.

He admitted a count of robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.

On July 7 last year he walked into Ladbrokes in Dyke Road, Brighton, and pointed a gun at staff.

This time he was sporting stick-on sideburns, aviator-style, gold-rimmed sunglasses and a brown Elvis-style wig.

He also admitted a count of attempted robbery and one of possession of an imitation firearm for this heist.

On July 18 he visited Ladbrokes in Gildredge Road, Eastbourne and pointed a gun at the shop assistant while wearing a balaclava.

Reilly, believed to have pocketed as much as £20,000 from several robberies, disguised himself with a fisherman’s hat, white hockey mask, workman’s clothes and hockey mask in other raids, the court was told.

Judge Anthony Scott-Gall adjourned sentencing for psychiatric reports but said jail was inevitable.

Speaking after the hearing Detective Inspector Ian Still said: “This is a great result following a very thorough through investigation across a number of police forces and led by Sussex Police.

“The fact he has pleaded guilty to 15 out of 20 charges shows how thorough the investigation was."

In total Reilly admitted seven counts of robbery/attempted robbery and eight counts of possession of an imitation firearm.

Reilly, originally from the Kettering area, has been remanded in custody to be sentenced at the same court on April 2.
