UPDATE: Snow expected to hit Sussex tonight

The Met Office has upgraded its severe weather weather warning from yellow to amber for most of East Sussex tonight.

Parts of West Sussex, including Crawley,Gatwick and Haywards Heath could also be affected.

Sussex is bracing itself for arctic conditions this weekend with forecasters predicting up to 10cm of snow in some areas in the early hours of Sunday.

The latest forecast warns that East Sussex will be hardest hit with Eastbourne, Uckfield and Hastings expected to bear the brunt.

Sussex Police are warning drivers to be prepared to cope with potentially treacherous roads and train, bus and airport services could be affected.

It's that time of year again...please would the Argus remind local football fans that they should not eat yellow snow.

I will believe the snow in Seaford when I actually see it but as the temperature is rising quite quickly I doubt we will have any which will be a great shame.

Ah, but if the temperature is rising it's almost certainly on its way. The temp almost always rises just before snow fall.

Yes folks the snow is on its way. East Sussex to get the most. West Sussex readers and maybe Brighton readers will be on there accusing the argus of getting it wrong because they only have an inch while East Sussex readers will be snowed up conmpletely. My advice is stay in unless you really have to go out. Heard my local supermarket has already sold out of bread and milk!!! Panic buying is in full swing. And they say people haven't got any money.

Dur, obvious.

But we don't always have snow, and we're also ill-equipped to deal with it as a country if it does happen.

So people need to know about it. Hope that helps.

Good it's snowing. I wish you would put some pictures showing the snow and the Arctic conditions then maybe I can swap you some of mine. We had the d..n stuff for 72 hours non stop. If anyone wants some snow grips for their boots then Canadian Tire over here have them on special offer. Please get rid of the white stuff for April when I return to the UK otherwise I'll have to bring my shovel.

Very cold rain falling at 2152GMT as I sit inside watching BRIGHTON ROCK on BBC2 and noticing that it was mostly filmed in Eastbourne and possibly the Regency Cafe is in London SW1?

Even if you are only going to the local shop, that is inadequate. A bivouac, 4 seasons sleeping bags, Kendal Mint Cake, Norwegian oilskin sweaters, high carb groceries, several gallons of drinking water & tennis racquets to use as snowshoes.. are also a must in this extreme weather.

Don't bother with the p*ss-poor remake, watch the original 1947 version; parts of the film were actually filmed in Brighton, unlike the newer version...

I carry a packet of condoms as well as they are handy for storing water and if you have to give a lift to some stranded totty you can do the old 'shared body heat jive'
Offer to give a lift home to a group of female lapdancers, if this blizzard is still in full force at clubs closing time ... ensuring you won't be short of warm company whilst trapped in a 1cm snow drift at 7 Dials.

Ray Mears would advise deflating the 2 drive axis tyres, to give better grip driving over Hove Tundra.

Err no. We got snow in West Sussex before some of you guys in East Sussex..... I posted on the another story about the snow the same time a few Brightonians where saying they were yet to see snow and accusing the Argus of getting it wrong.

But Argus, seriously? Arctic conditions??? Get a grip.

The original was shown last week so I recorded it and watched it last night while the snow wasn't falling.

While I disagree that the remake was pi$$-poor (that would be impossible since Helen Mirren and Andrea Riseborough are in it) I agree that the original is far superior. Hadn't realised that Richard Attenborough could be so creepy, or that Doctors Who and Watson were in it. Still superb if it has reached pensionable age

Our wildlife have a tough time too during freezing weather. Birds need extra food, badgers cannot dig for food in rock hard frozen soil, foxes desperately scavenge for any food they can find. Please remember to
put out extra food.
