Got to agree with previous post that anyone in private sector wouldn't get away with this.

The question is why?

A little snow and ice is no excuse!

What is anyone trying to "get away with"?

I thought a key factor was the ability of staff to get to the school. Unlike the kids, the teachers often dont live locally and have to drive in.Cant have children in school without sufficient numbers of staff to supervise them.Dont know the circumstances for these schools though, but the snow is bad in the East part of E.Sussex and Kent I hear.

Try the BBC article stating that half of Heathrow flights are grounded & then come back with an equally inane comment!

I know what you are trying to say but the point is that Heathrow hasn't got away with it, they're being given a grilling.

Stupic comments re: public / private sector.
Take the train companies. Private sector and chaos on Kent trains with cancellations and delays. Plus why would anyone want their child in school without enough staff or a playground that's like a skating rink.
