Fire tackled in Brighton pub

Drinkers were evacuated after a pub in Brighton caught fire.

Eyewitness Marie Gjerver sent in this video of smoke pouring out of the Market Inn on Market Street at around 8pm on Sunday, February 5.

She said: “It looked pretty serious but the firefighters were very quickly on the scene.”

Four fire engines were called to the blaze, which started in the basement.

A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue described the fire as “severe”.

Six firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used thermal imaging cameras to make sure the fire was out.

It took half an hour to extinguish the blaze completely.
