Brighton and Hove council drive on neglected buildings

Owners of a neglected property have been given six months to carry out repairs.

Brighton and Hove City Council has served an enforcement notice on Niniven Trading which owns a three-storey terraced building at 7 and 8 York Place.

The local authority said it had decided to take action because the owners failed to respond to warning letters.

Officers are concerned about the impact of the neglected building on surrounding properties in the area.

The owners have now been asked to repaint the outside of the building, including its timber frames, and to repair windows.

The local authority said it was keen to take action against a number of other properties in the area considered to be in a bad state.

To report a neglected building call 01273 290000 or visit www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/planning.

i think we can all see a lot of run down shops along lewes road and london road too degrading these areas especially the upper parts. the upper parts of the shops along lewes road just by elm grove are in a terrible state with grafitti on the top for years although the shops are looking nice. surely the freeholder should be made to keep a building used by the public such as a shop to a minimum state of repair and as important style.

Why don’t the council Pay? If they have a problem with it then do it yourself!

They seem to have enough money to do up council tenant properties!

Since when did Brighton have a city centre? Am I missing something? Last I knew Brighton was a town, with a town centre?

Unless of course they mean the centre of the city of 'Brighton & Hove', which in theory would be called 'Brighton & Hove city centre'.

Wake up Brighton (and The Argus!), you're not a city on your own - I know it's hard to accept - but just deal with it.
