A woman was trapped in her car in one of a series of crashes on country roads near Wadhurst, Midhurst and Heathfield this afternoon.
She was injured in the crash between two cars on the B2099, near Wadhurst, at about 3.20pm.
Firefighters released her after working at the scene for an hour.
She and a man were both understood to have been taken to hospital.
Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call Sussex Police on 101, quoting Operation Fuji.
At 4pm a Jaguar and a Suzuki Grand Vitara collided on the A272 at Trotton, near Midhurst.
Three people were said to be injured but police said no-one was in a life-threatening condition.
At Cade Street, near Heathfield, two cars collided at about 4.30pm.
One person is understood to have suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.
No further information about the condition of any of the people injured was available at 7pm.
Anyone with information about the crashes is asked to call Sussex Police on 101.
