A builder vaulted a wall and jumped onto railway lines in front of a train to save a woman who was lying on the tracks.

Trevor Murray, 37, was yesterday hailed a hero for his actions, which saved the life of the unnamed pensioner.

The incident took place shortly after 11am yesterday (February 13).

Mr Murray, from Peacehaven, was working in the garden of a property off Portland Road, Hove.

The garden of the property runs next to the main line from Brighton to Worthing and is separated by a 10ft high wall and brambles.

Mr Murray rushed to help the woman after hearing shouting that there was someone lying on the tracks.

With no regard for his own safety he climbed over the wall and rushed to the pensioner’s aid as a Southern train approached.

He managed to talk to her and eventually pulled her from the tracks and out of danger. The train stopped yards away.

Inspector Gary Ancell, from British Transport Police, said that the woman had been taken to hospital where she was receiving treatment.

He said: “The man was very brave.

“However, there are live rails and we want to remind people never to go on the tracks.”

everyone knows that you shouldnt really do something like this but i have to say nice one to the bloke for bothering to help and risk his own life to help someone else. GIVE UP.. maybe you should do just that! just because someone did something that you may not agree with it doesnt mean that you have the right to be horrible about someone. and as for comparing a human to a dog lol....

I bet this guy is ex army.

This person could of been someone's grandmother, deserted, cold, hungry.

How sad this world has become that a human being can be so distressed as to try to take their own life, & all we can muster up is a " shouldn't of done that because it's dangerous" or " should of just left them". This country has got into a terrible state, absolute terrible.

I really cannot believe the mean spirited comments that some people have left here. This man did indeed risk his life which, logically, makes little sense. However, he did so selflessly and in order to save another person's life. What would you have done...or have had the courage to do?

Brave man, however, I see the usual Argus "loonies" are still being their predictable selves (there really is a case for blocking comment by these fools) ... in many forums they would be black listed immediately ... Queens commendation for brave conduct would be the appropriate award for this man .(can be awarded to civilians) let's hope someone connected to the incident will take the time to put his name forward Inspector Ancell note & comply.

It was a while ago we featured community responders, I'll suggest it to the editor as a feature idea.
