Sussex woman hits a million to one hole-in-one

A grandmother had more chance of winning thousands of pounds on the lottery than achieving golf glory.

But Margarett Stally, 68, defied odds of one million to one to bag a hole-in-one on a par four while on holiday in Egypt.

It comes eighteen months after her grandson Jay Stally, 20, from Hove, bagged three holes-in-one in a week.

Mrs Stally, who is a member of Seaford Golf Club in Firle Road, believes she is the only woman in Sussex to have achieved the remarkable feat.

Mrs Stally, of Court Farm Road, Newhaven, who has been only playing the sport for four years, said: “It’s rare to get a hole-in-one on a par three never mind a par four.

“My husband, Pete, has been playing for more than 30 years and hasn’t got close. He is pig sick.”

Mrs Stally bagged the albatross, which is three shots below the score expected on a single hole, while playing the Madinat Makadi Golf Club in Hurghada, near the family’s holiday home in Egypt.

The hole-in-one came on the 283-yard long 11th hole.

She said: “It’s downhill so during the week I was getting it close to the green.

“On the last day I thought I would aim it a bit to the right.

“Pete was on the green and we were looking for ages to find my ball. Eventually I went back up to the tee to hit another ball and he asked what ball I was playing with.

“I told him a blue Titleist and he said it was in the hole.

“I was shaking like a leaf. I couldn’t hit the next shot.

“We don’t know any other woman golfer that has done it and we spoke to the county golfing association and they don’t either.”

Nikki Terry, the women’s captain at Seaford Golf Club, said: “Margarett is the talk of the golf club. I’m not sure many of the men believe her.”

So.. The name of the course in Egypt?

Did she get the ball through the Windmill the first time.

Does she really believe she is the first woman in Sussex to do this!
