Rejected lover harrassed Brighton doctor

A lovestruck city high-flyer faces jail for stalking a trainee doctor and her mother.

Al Amin Dhalla, 42, was yesterday (February 14) convicted of harassing Brighton doctor Alison Hewitt, 35, and her mother Pamela Hewitt yesterday.

The couple met in January 2010 via an executive dating agency for professionals, moved in together later that year and enjoyed holidays abroad before the relationship soured.

Unable to cope with the rejection, Dhalla began stalking Dr Hewitt, who worked at hospitals including the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, the Martlets Hospice and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.

Over a four-week trial a jury at Lewes Crown Court was told Dhalla’s “unseemly haste” in wanting to marry Dr Hewitt contributed to the relationship falling apart.

Yesterday Dhalla was convicted of harassing Dr Hewitt and her mother but was cleared of putting her in fear of violence through harassment.

Verdicts have not yet been reached on three charges.

The jury will resume their deliberations today (February 15).
