99-bed care home approved for Brighton

Developers have welcomed the approval of a 99-bed care home.

Brighton and Hove City Council has given permission for the development at the junction of London Road and Carden Avenue.

It was approved by the local authority’s planning committee by a vote of eight to three.

Sue Earrey, the land and development manager at Hallmark Care Homes, said: “We are delighted to bring a care home to Brighton, along with all the job and business opportunities that it will create locally.

"We are committed to providing high quality, luxury care homes for older people.”

The firm, which has 17 homes across the country, said it will provide residential, dementia and nursing care at the site.

Contributions of nearly £50,000 from the developer will be used for transport improvements in the area.
