An investigation into an allegation of sexual assault in the grounds of University of Sussex in the early hours of Tuesday, February 21, has been closed.
Detectives launched an inquiry after a 20-year-old woman reported being assaulted as she walked across the campus.
Detective Inspector Ian Still of Brighton and Hove CID said: "Since police received the allegation at around 4.40am yesterday, comprehensive and widespread enquiries have taken place and we are satisfied that there is no evidence to show that such an attack took place and the woman has been fully updated.
"We will continue to work closely with the two universities in Brighton to ensure the safety of their students.”
Another allegation of sexual assault on a woman in her late teens at the university campus in the early hours of Wednesday, February 15 is still being investigated.
DI Still said: "We are still appealing for anyone who may be able to assist us with enquiries in this reported sexual assault to contact us.
“The woman reports being attacked by a man with a knife near to accommodation at the rear of the university."
Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact Sussex Police.
