Buy my house and you can have it for free if Albion are promoted

Martin Senior outside the home he will give away if Brighton and Hove Alboin are promoted Martin Senior outside the home he will give away if Brighton and Hove Alboin are promoted

Would you bet your house on Albion’s promotion push?

Martin Senior is putting his £1.4 million luxury house in Hill Brow, Hove, up for sale but he’ll pay the buyer back every penny if the Seagulls are promoted this season.

The bet, thought to be the first of its kind, could see someone net this four-bedroom detached property for the bumper bargain price of £0 with no penalties attached.

Mr Senior, 45, said: “It would be the perfect end to the season for an Albion fan – a free house and their team in the Premier League.

“We promise to anyone who buys my house that if Albion get promoted this season, we will give the buyer all their money back.

"They get to keep the house. No questions asked, every single pound will be paid back.”

The odds on promotion for the Seagulls this season is 10-1, with 80-1 on them winning the league.

The team currently lie in ninth place with 49 points and are two points off a playoff place, although several of the teams above them have a game in hand. There are 15 games left to play.

The sculptor and his partner, Debbie Deakin, designed and built the house they have lived in for the last eight years.

It was put on the market last year but failed to sell and the couple are now hoping this sporting gesture, cooked up with betting firm Paddy Power, who are underwriting the promotion, and estate agent Winkworth, will achieve their goal.

Sarah Turck, from Winkworth, said: “It’s the first time this has been done anywhere and is certainly a unique opportunity.”

Well obviously the house isn't worth £1.4 million or it would have sold. Try reducing the asking price.

Obviously a man with little faith in the Albion getting promoted wither.

Looks like some sort of clinic from the photo.
Maybe it's better looking inside although I fear a swathe of pretend wood floor, leather furniture and a big flat screen on the wall.

If you're not going to stump up £1.4mil for it, why worry?

If you are going to buy it, it'll then be yours and you can do what you like with any residual pretend wood, leather and big TVs, so why worry?

What a desperate attempt to flog this overpriced house that clearly cannot sell itself.

I bet the chap in the photo wearing a t-shirt in the middle of winter is not even a Brighton fan.

house buyers must realise they can buy places in Peacehaven for 1/4 of the price and which are aesthetically no different

If I could afford to buy a house for £1.4million I would expect my neighbours House to be more than 2metres away on either side.

What an odd person, what does he gain if Brighton get promoted? he's down £1.4 mill or at least the bookie is.
And if Brighton do not get promotion, which on resent form is more likely, what or who gets what ?
I guess it all depends on what the true value of the house is?

A slight aside, but technically, on current form, they WOULD get promoted.

But I agree, probably won't happen, and I also still don't understand why he is doing it.

He's holding an Albion scarf, thus promoting the Albion. I think legally he's just lost it!

Will600000 -
The house hasn't sold before and he likes the idea of promoting it in a different way. Assuming the house is not worth more than £1.26 million and he gets someone to buy it for £1.4 mill then when the sale is executed he has pre-arranged to put a £140,000 bet on at 10-1 (but he'll be getting better odds than I guess) - then if Albion gets promoted he pays back the buyer out of his betting winnings. And if Albion doesn't get promoted then he has still sold the house at the correct value of £1.26 million. I assume that is the thinking.
