The organisation that took the loan from the council went bust. The organisers of this year's event, who are underwriting the event, were not involved with the previous organisers. Good Luck to them for taking the poisoned chalice - and ensuring that money will be raised for local LGBT charities by this event, for the first time in 3 years
so are they 'renting' the park for the day?

to have use of a public facility for free would be taking the p*ss!

but then the Greens will do anything to promote a tick from the LGBT community next election time.
Most of us aren't quite that fickle."

Public asked to shape Pride Brighton and Hove

Brighton and Hove Pride 2012 Brighton and Hove Pride 2012

Readers of The Argus are being asked to help shape this year’s Pride Brighton and Hove.

We have teamed up with the new organisers of the event to get your ideas for a theme for Pride 2012.

The competition is being launched today and coincides with the first glimpse of the Pride Brighton and Hove 2012 logo.

The design, created by Brighton-based Foundry Works, incorporates the iconic rainbow colours with the world famous Brighton rock.

The festival’s new organisation, formed by Michael Deol and Robert Webb, the owners of Club Revenge in Old Steine, and James Ledward, editor of GScene magazine, has been hard at work on the event two weeks after being chosen by Brighton and Hove City Council to run this year’s celebration.

Organisers have signed a contract with a security firm this week and hope to tie-up a deal for the bar contract later this month.

It is also hoped that a new website will be up and running in the next few weeks, and that tickets for the event could go on sale in early May.

The new Pride staff are also working on the first draft of a plan they will submit to the council, police and other authorities detailing how this year’s event will be run.

Trevor Edwards, director of Pride Brighton and Hove, said: “What can be more Brighton and Hove than a stick of rock?

“We want to re-establish Pride Brighton and Hove as part of the community and what better way than going out to the community and asking them for ideas.

“The new image and the competition are also a way of announcing we are a new organisation and let people know we are here.”

Readers now have a fortnight to come up with ideas for this year’s event.

Previous themes have included out of this world, beside the seaside, around the world, musicals and Carry On.

All entries must be received by noon on Thursday, April 5.

Just email your theme idea with the subject PRIDE along with up to 250 words explaining why your theme should be chosen.

Remember to include your name and contact number and send it to competitions@theargus.co.uk.

The final two themes will be decided by a public vote.

Organisers are also keen to hear from businesses and community groups about their ideas for the parade.

More information on the event is available from a new helpline by calling 01273 257225.
