  • "I'm sure they didn't 'choose' to fly at a Russian event, they were probably told to be there. It's a shame but a lot of airshows are being disrupted this year, using the Olympics as an excuse. Shoreham Air Show is another casualty, it's on slightly later than usual but also the organisers are already hinting that the content is going to be mainly Battle of Britain stuff. As far as I'm concerned you can't have a proper airshow without noisy jets, so bad news all round really (for me anyway!)."

Red Arrows will not appear at Eastbourne Airshow

The Red Arrows will not be appearing at this year's Eastbourne Airshow - instead choosing to fly at a Russian event.

The display team, who usually top the bill at the International Airshow, are missing this year's event as they are in Moscow to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the Russian Air Force.

However Tornado and Hawk fast jets along with the Battle of Britain trio of the Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster are all set to appear at the August 9 to 12 event.

Organisers have promised more announcements with a host of classic jets, helicopters and a parachute display team set to join the bill.

Neil Stanley, Eastbourne Borough Council's cabinet member for tourism, said: “We are of course sad not to see the Red Arrows this year, but understand their commitments overseas cannot always work in our favour.

“Not all airshows receive the Red Arrows every year, and we are very lucky to have welcomed them most years and look forward to their return in the future.”
