Green-fingered Hollingdean residents are being invited to a seed swapping event.
The event will take place at Hollingdean Community Centre, Thompson Road, from 10am 2pm on May 5.
Daniel Goodhand, the event organiser, said: “There will be people who know a lot about plants there to tell people about the seedlings, and cakes, tea and coffee will be provided.”
The free event has been set up to encourage a community feel, and to get people interested in the plants they will be swapping.
This is the first event of its type, and Mr. Goodhand hopes the event will encourage an enhanced sense of community in the area.
The seed swap was inspired by events which took place in Mr Goodhand’s previous area, where street parties and community get-togethers were commonplace.
Mr Goodhand said: “My neighbour put tomato plants in his front yard, and you’d drop 20p through his letterbox and come away with your own tomato plant. I want to recreate that warm community feeling in Hollingdean.”
People without plants are also welcome to attend, to mingle with other residents and meet new people.
People who may feel isolated are particularly welcome, to get to know other members of the community, and Mr Goodhand hopes that people will “come along and have fun”.
There will be some of Mr Goodhand’s own seedlings available, but residents are encouraged to drop off their own potted, labelled seedlings and plants prior to the event at 14 Uplands Road, Hollingdean.
