A man reacted badly when police told him to stop feeding birds.

Andres Labuschm was feeding pigeons off London Road in Brighton when Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) told him he was not allowed to.

He was not happy with being told this and reacted, leading to the officers calling for back-up.

Chris Ball, prosecuting at Brighton Magistrates’ Court, said the PCSOs were concerned that if the birds all moved they could fly into the road and cause a problem.

But he said that Labuschm, 42, who lives in a tent in Brighton, did not understand this.

He added: “His response was not helpful. He simply did not get that.

"He was concerned that he could not feed the pigeons.”

He explained that Labuschm, who said he had been “in the Paras”, yelled: “I promise I will get even with you” when other officers arrived.

Teresa Mulrooney, defending, said: “He was entitled to take exception with what was being said to him but it was the manner in which he said it.”

District judge Peter Crabtree said: “However innocuously enough it started it ended in a torrent of abuse.”

Labuschm admitted failing to surrender to bail, using threatening/abusive words/behaviour, abusive words/behaviour and breach of conditional discharge. He was ordered to pay £140 in total.
