An MP has been elected onto the executive of an influential backbench committee.

Simon Kirby, who represents Brighton Kemptown, will serve on the executive of the influential 1922 committee, which links Conservative MPs with the Prime Minister.

Mr Kirby said: “This position will allow me to be an even louder voice in Parliament for the residents of my constituency.”

So far as I am aware the 1922 Committee only influences what the Conservative Party adopts for policy so how Brighton residents might benefit eludes me.
As to 'serving' sounds as if his role might include either a folded napkin or drinks tray!
