Brighton police release images of men wanted in connection with March for England violence

Pictures have been released of five people wanted by police investigating violence which flared during the March for England through Brighton last month.

A 10-year-old girl and two police officers were injured after bottles were hurled at the fifth annual nationalist gathering.

The event attracted counter-demonstrations by anti-fascist protesters, leading to three arrests following ugly exchanges on April 22.

Sussex Police said there was a "considerable level of violence" directed at the 140 marchers and attempts were made to block them at several points along the route.

Today, officers issued pictures of five people they want to question over the trouble. All are suspected of throwing bottles, cans or containers at police officers and crowds.

Mounted police were drafted in to maintain calm but Superintendent Steve Whitton said it was clear some people were intent on not protesting peacefully.

He said: "We were able to restrain these groups and individuals with a firm, robust but fair policing response but this did require a major police presence at several points."

The three people arrested were all men who were not connected to the march. All were detained on suspicion of public order offences at separate points along the route.

One was later released without charge and the other two, both aged 20 - one from Brighton and one from Worthing, West Sussex - are on police bail pending further inquiries.

Police said they were also investigating a report of common assault on a 43-year-old man who was walking behind the march when he was allegedly grabbed.

It was not the march for england that caused the trouble it was the ones against the march hiding amongst the public that were out for trouble. The police did a great job on the day.Why dont the anti march protesters march too that way their opinion would also be put over peasefully but hiding amongst the public does not mean you cant be procecuted if you break the law.

Gives me an idea though. Why don't we photograph all benefits claimants and then they can be checked to see if they are taking part in protests or actively looking for work.

First of all, who brings children to a march which, in previous years, has been associated with violence? Second of all, the throwing of cans etc. from the counter-demonstrator
s started because the MFE lot started throwing stuff first. Third of all, one of the police officers was actually was injured by a marcher with the MFE - someone threw a brick at the march and one of them tried to lob it back, failed, and hit the officer in the head. All of which one of my friends saw directly. Please dig a bit deeper before you start making things up. I don't condone any of the violence from either side, but the EDL/MFE crowd are definitely the ones at fault here, mainly because they're a bunch of violent racist thugs.

Yeah but the trouble with your argument is that it was SmashEdo who put up posters all over town telling people to oppose the march "in anyway you feel comfortable with" which is clearly an incitement to violence and indeed proved to be exactly that.
The violence was started by SmashEdo and the UAF, so stop lying. Why shouldnt a ten year old girl be able to attend a peaceful march with her parents? Because your mates think its ok to use violence to stop people from exercising their democratic right to peaceful protest?

GUILTY? That sounds very sympathetic.

I don't know what they've allegedly done but I also don't know if they've seen that they've been plastered over the local press or if they have actually eliminated themselves from police enquiries or will do so once they realise the police are looking for them.

So let's reserve judgement on their guilt or innocence shall we!

You also believe that it's right to intimidate men, women and CHILDREN by using violence, but you blame them as you did not intimidate them enough in the past,so they 'asked for it'.What a truly digusting little person you are !

So much stupidity.

Why shouldn't you bring a 10 year old to a peaceful march?

Because the march had one purpose - to provoke a reaction. The EDL anticipated, and hoped for, a violent response to their march so they could claim the moral high ground.

I didn't see what happened around the station, but when the march was diverted down the lanes, TWO people were responsible for throwing bottles; I watched as they dragged a dustbin full of bottles from the rear of a bar and started throwing; They managed very few before police horses cordoned the area off.

The two people throwing bottles were masked, and neither as far as I can see are in the pictures the police released.

There are some here - http://bit.ly/LpWPXv

99% of protesters were non-violent and a reasonable percentage of them were - like myself - non-political. I'm not a socialist, anarchist, or anything else. I'm a middle aged guy who found the EDL march, and everything they stand for, unacceptable in my home city.

So again, are you a public sector worker? Maybe you would like to answer without your guardian angel stepping in to help you this time.

Well not convinced myself that they are one and the same though I'm pretty sure AmboGuy has some other aliases. For a start JHunty seems aware of your job (like most of the rest of us) and AmboGuy seems slightly clueless in that regard (and many other regards). But who knows?

He is very definitely an annoying Troll though.

Best summed up by:"Arguing with Trolls is like playing chess with a pigeon; no matter how good you are at chess the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, mess on the board and strut around like it’s victorious."

Because, my little troll friend, as I have explained already if you are a public sector worker who supports a violent left wing group who uses violence against other public sector workers, ie the Pplice, then there is a HUGE conflict there. Maybe you don't agree.

But it's complete nonsense. Smash EDO activists don't go round assaulting the police. As far as I can ascertain, every criminal trial involving Smash EDO has resulted in acquittal, most notably when a jury decided that their actions were entirely justifiable in preventing a greater crime. Maybe that's what annoys you so much.

Luckily the higher courts rarely listen to hearsay and malicious gossip of the type routinely peddled on this site by AmboGuy and JHunty and usually only deal in provable facts. Must be very frustrating for them both.

You don't like it when people make assumptions about you do you but you are known by the ease with which you make assumptions about others.

You seem convinced I'm a student even though I've denied it repeatedly. There's nothing wrong with being a student it's just that I'm not one and unfortunately not very young either. If it was completely innocent it wouldn't have a massive counter protest?? My God sir (or madam) you are a naive child. The counter protest is entirely political and is intended to ensure the public continue to blur the distinction, as you do, between nationalism and racism. In reality the two are completely different but whilst you and others keep falling for the same nonsense anybody who wishes to stand up and put this nation first will be dismissed as a racist. Note I said nation not race - oh and putting England first doesn't mean you have to hate everyone or even anyone else.

I have no idea about the real motives of MfE but motives of the fascistic "anti-fascists" are very clear.

Robbadob says...

If you want to have a clue what the real motives of MfE are then look up casualsunited, a blog that promoted them a lot and whose comments include many a rant about Asians or muslims when they're trying to claim not to be racist.
It was because of these links that there was a counter demo.
Fascistic implies organized and disciplined- this wouldn't describe either the march or counter demo.

Fascistic in that they wish to prevent freedom of speech. I'm afraid that just because casualsunited support MfE that doesn't mean there is an ideological link. Your logical thought processes are clearly very poor .

The counter demo was politically motivated. That is quite obvious. MfE is not a vehicle for hatred but the fascists pretended they were as an excuse to mobilise.

This nation needs nationalism not racism. We are governed by the EU and until we regain powers we cannot move forward as a nation. You left wing fascists try to pretend race is involved but that is ridiculous. A real nationalist is entirely uninterested in race unlike the left who seem obsessed by it.

By all means stand up for what you believe in but at least have the courage of your own convictions and see them through and for what they are.

I opposed the counter demonstrations BTW. Always have done and always will do. Not because I agree with the stand you are claiming to hold but because I think that sometimes the best way to deal with short sighted, naive, nincompoops is to ignore them.

You may sincerely hold that 'Real' Nationalism is not about race, ethnicity or insularity. If that is the case, you need to go and educate yourselves a bit. There is a huge divide between an honestly and sincerely held pride in your nation and Nationalism.

Nonsense. Nationalism does not have anything to do with race. You have naively believed the political opponents of the nation state who associate it with racism because that is an easy to way to destroy it.

I frankly don't care about MfE, my point is about nationalism. The counter demonstrators also do not care about MfE, only to once again use any opportunity to link national pride with racism or fascism.

Of course nationalism attracts racist nutters, all political viewpoints have their associated nutters, often these are just as racist. To me the positive discrimination of the socialists is racist and condescending to ethnic minorities.

There are different forms of nationalism, you have made the old mistake of linking all nationalists together. I don't blame you, it is very normal but very wrong.

Ethnic and racial nationalists are not thinking straight. They are in fact in the minority though the majority don't realise it. There is no place in politics for discussions about race or ethnicity - a nation should operate on the merit of it's people not their racial or ethnic background. I am against both positive and negative discrimination, it is time we moved beyond such racist, ignorant and archaic ideas.

That is such a basic website and the links are not necessarily indicative of MfE anyway, as they clearly state. It is quite obvious the MfE are an insignificance blown out of proportion to suit the politics of the socialists. You are kidding yourself if you think the counter demonstrators really believe MfE or even EDL are a threat. They hijack these events to push their own socialist agenda and call you a racist if you do not accept it.

Stick to the real issues. Why is this country paying billions to the EU and getting nothing in return except for straight jacket policies that damage our ability to grow out of this recession. Why is immigration even required with so many jobless existing residents? Why are we forced to watch our businesses fail simply to abide by EU regulations that no other nation bothers with?

If you really do have national pride you should fight for your country and not allow it to be ruled by people with no accountability and no interest in the consequences of their actions. Don't worry, it won't make you a racist no matter how much the UAF and other fascist groups try to pretend it will.
