More than 1,000 women and girls of all ages got together for the first Sussex Race for Life event for this year.

The 5km event at Tilgate Park in Crawley is expected to raise more than £122,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Toddlers, teenagers and 20-somethings joined together with mums, grans, aunties, friends and workmates in a spectacular array of fairy wings, feather boas and fancy dress in every shade of pink imaginable.

The event is one of eight races being held at venues including Brighton, Worthing, Ardingly, Eastbourne and Hastings this summer.

Organiser Suzi Dent said: “Race for Life in Crawley was a fantastic event and we are so very grateful to everyone who took part or supported our participants, as well as the wonderful volunteers who helped make the event happen.

“Now the big day is over, we are asking our supporters to take one last step - by returning the money they've raised so it can go into vital research to help more men, women and children survive cancer.”

Pity it wasn't on for other charities since cancer research is the richest charity of the lot.
