Hit-and-run cyclist wanted in Chichester

A cyclist knocked down a man in his 80s then rode off in Chichester.

Police said the pensioner suffered serious injuries in the crash in North Street, outsde Robert Dyas, at about 10.30am on Thursday.

He was still being treated at St Richard's Hospital in Chichester yesterday.

The cyclist did not stay at the scene of the crash.

Sussex Police are appealing to the cyclist, and witnesses to the crash, to call them on 101, quoting serial 1020 of June 8.

Great stuff - an uninsured - no doubt - cyclist who pays no road tax hits an seriously injures an elderly citizen. In general cyclist behaviour on our roads is an absolute disgrace - find this person and throw the book at them!! And please....stop wasting money we haven't got building cycle lanes that aren't used or required.

When I saw the headline here, I thought it was a job ad.

And Peter, ruminate on this- replace the word 'cyclist' in your post with 'pedestrian' or 'mobility scooter user' and consider whether it makes any difference?

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ROAD TAX! YOU PAY FOR THE UPKEEP OF THE ROADS IN YOUR COMMUNITY CHARGE, WHICH EVERYONE PAYS, INCLUDING CYCLISTS OTHERWISE YOU ARE UP IN FRONT OF THE MAGISTRATE FOR NON PAYMENT. THE DISC YOU PAY FOR IS VEHICLE EXCISE DUTY WHICH IS THE TAX ON YOUR ENGINE. THIS MONEY DOES NOT GO FOR THE UPKEEP OF THE ROADS. Does shouting at you help you understand!

Its dreadful that the cyclist has ridden off but that's the fault of the person on the bike NOT all cyclists in general .

There does seem to be a number of people with blinkered stereotypical views depending on the transport you use and so quick to jump to conclusions. This makes them the worst type of road user. Whether I'm on my bike, in my car, on my motorcycle, in my van or walking along the high street, I'm the same man, I pay the same taxes and follow the same rules. If I'm walking or cycling I'm more vulnerable to death or injury than in my car or van and if on my motorcycle at the highest risk of death or injury which will most likely be as a consequence of another road users actions. The most dangerous road users are the ones that label everyone else as "the problem". Consider that I'm taxed, insured & pay my dues to be on the road, it's just one day I'll cycle, the next bike and the next drive. Judge me as a person, not by the transport I choose to use.

I think you are wasting your time shouting. People who do not understand this never will. It is a bit like those who pay National Insurance and think that it pays for the NHS and pensions. And no matter how loud you shout at the French they still refuse to understand English.

no it doesn't, muppet!!!! whilst i totally agree with you, shouting won't help the already stupid understand any better. i, however, am not stupid, and fully understand. this errant cyclist must be found, and brought to book. a hit and run driver breaks the law by failing to pass on his insurance details, and so should a cyclist. i hope the gentleman recovers ok.

This is the most sensible comment I've seen on this site for ages. The real issue is people who think that the rules don't apply to them as they are too smart to have or cause any accidents. In reality, they are just plain egotists.

I wonder how many people have been knocked over by cyclists who refuse to stop and acknowledge their crime. Many elderly people have had arms, hips and legs broken by illegal cyclists on the pavement. The NHS should keep records and claim the expense back from the police or council for failure to act in keeping the pavements safe for pedestrians.

Peterthomas you are stupid.
Are you suggesting that it would have been preferable if the cyclist had been insured when he hit the pensioner.
Idiot.
The cyclist should be found and arrested if he was cycling on the pavement but the story does not state this clearly.
Sadly there are selfish idiot cyclist as there are car drivers.
Put your brain in gear before typing.

Can any of you muppets that have posted above what actual offence has been committed??

Apart from "being a bit of an a*se" there is no legal requirement for a cyclist to stop etc.

What you bunch of monkeys seem to be mixing up is MOTORING law (the clue is in the first five letters of motoring)

I hate cyclists but, in this case, has the cyclist actually broken any law???

A**holes.
