WHILE in Brighton with my wife last Sunday, we decided to stop for lunch at the excellent Thistle Hotel.
So far, so good – having a seafront-facing table, the nice food turned up and all was going well.
Then, lo and behold, we were distracted by an unusual column weaving its way along King’s Road from an easterly direction. Heading up this column was a generous police escort, reinforced by several other colleagues acting as flankers. Yes, I should have guessed; it is that time of year again – the annual Naked Bike Ride.
Now to the point: what makes a seemingly sane adult want to ride naked through the centre of a family holiday resort? Draw your own conclusions.
Worse still, the police, by supporting and condoning this tawdry event year after year, appear to be attempting to mould or distort the law to suit certain trendy factions in the city.
And who ends up picking up the tab for policing this bizarre event? Not these naked bike riders, that’s for sure.

I SAW these naked riders going along Western Road – some were not even on bikes.
This is a main shopping area full of parents with children. If you or I had done this, we would have been arrested for indecency. These so called activists are nothing but exhibitionists.
