Start date announced for £9.8m footbridge
8:21am Tuesday 19th June 2012 in News By Ben James
Construction of the Shoreham Footbridge will begin in August.
The project is estimated to take 45 weeks and come in at a cost of £9.8m.
Work was due to start in spring 2012 but was put back for a review of costs and technical details.
Pieter Montyn, council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “I understand the frustration the delay has caused but it is important that this work was carried out prior to the start of the construction phase.
“The new footbridge will be a great asset to Shoreham."

Are they making it out of Italian marble and adorning with the Hanging Gardens and gold leaf for that?

I agree Kopite_rob..perhaps we can have a penny by penny breakdown of the costs - I really cannot believe either that a relatively small footbridge can cost upwards of £10m - I am sure as usual, somebody is making a tidy profit by ripping off the gullable people (probably also paid a not inconsiderable sum) who have agreed to this cost!!

How can a footbridge cost almost £10M and take almost a year to build? Are they making it out of Italian marble and adorning with the Hanging Gardens and gold leaf for that?

£10m? .... breakdown would be £5 million builders costs and £5m 'consultancy' fees... I'm only guessing though.
