Ram raiders target cash machine in Mannings Heath
7:12am Wednesday 20th June 2012 in News By Emily Walker, Chief Reporter
Ram raiders tried to steal a cash machine from a garage forecourt.
A gang smashed through the front of the shop then dragged the cash machine using a flatbed lorry.
But they could not get inside the ATM and fled without any cash.
Police were called to Elite Garages on the A281 at Mannings Heath, near Horsham, at 1.19am on Monday after the alarm was activated.
A stolen truck matching the same description was found a few miles away shortly after.
Detective Sergeant David Morton said: "It would appear that an ATM in the garage shop was the intended target. This has been dragged from the premises causing considerable damage, but it is not believed at this stage that they succeeded in removing any cash from it.
"A white flatbed lorry was seen driving away from the scene south along the A281 soon after the incident. It had a crane on the rear and loose chains were dragging on the road causing sparks.”
Anyone with any information should call police on 101.
