Knifeman jailed for vicious attack

An unemployed man who attacked a 22-year-old with two large kitchen knives has been caged for two years.

Ciaron Hutton, 30, left his victim with injuries to the stomach, face and upper arms after the vicious attack in Jubilee Road, Bexhill, in the early hours of March 5, 2011.

Hutton, also of Jubilee Road, Bexhill, was given a two year sentence after being found guilty of GBH.

Caged? Caged? Shouldn't that read 'imprisoned' or something similar?

TWO YEARS????
What sort of sentence is that? This sounds remarkably like attempted murder - stabbed in the stomach and face with 2 kitchen knives? What a pathetic sentence.

Stabbed? How do you know?

I agree though that 2 years does appear lenient; maybe there were extenuating circumstances. Perhaps we have to buy the paper to get the full story.

No, extenuating circumstances would be something like 'causing armed police to maintain a five hour siege by wandering around your house brandishing kitchen knives.'

In fairness, the story doesn't tell us anything of the circumstances. I doubt it was entirely unprovoked, but there may have been reasons for this sentence.

Since it is mentioned in the first line and, therefore, seems of relevance to the story, perhaps we should be told whether the victim is also unemployed.
