Hastings stab woman found guilty

A WOMAN who stabbed her partner in a rage has been found guilty of attempted murder.
Christine Coton, 62, of Ashburnham Road, Hastings, was arrested on the evening of Sunday, June 26, 2011 when police turned up at her house to find a man and woman covered in blood.
The 48-year-old man had multiple stab wounds and a number of other superficial cuts. He was rushed to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings with life-threatening injuries and had to undergo two operations to stabilise his condition.
After a six-day trial at Hove Crown Court, the jury returned a guilty verdict on Monday. Coton was remanded in custody for sentencing at Hove Crown Court on August 10.
Detective Constable Paula Melville said: "Domestic violence at any level is a crime that is always taken very seriously by Sussex Police and this result shows that courts are also prepared to take very firm action. The victim in this case is still struggling to come to terms with what happened to him, but is pleased with the verdict and I hope that this will help him.
"I would urge anyone who is suffering domestic abuse to contact us. There are many services who can offer support and our aim is to prevent such incidents as much as it is to seek justice for those who have suffered."
