Football fans urged to stay safe tonight
Ambulance bosses are urging football fans to stay safe and look after themselves and friends when watching England’s quarter-final against Italy tonight.
Bars across Brighton and Hove and the rest of the county are expected to be packed by the time the game kicks-off at 7.45pm.
South East Coast Ambulance Service typically experiences an increase in calls when events like major football matches take place.
The ambulance service received than 100 additional calls when England played Sweden on on June 15 compared to the Friday before.
The service is urging everyone across Sussex to ensure tonight is not spoilt by a trip in an ambulance and to hospital which could have been avoided.
Head of planning Andy Cashman said: “As always, we have robust plans in place to manage any increase in demand but people can support us as well as the players by using their common sense to avoid any unnecessary trips to A&E.
“If people choose to consume alcohol they should also ensure they also drink plenty of water.
“We obviously don’t want to stop people having a good time but we do ask that they are sensible and think about the impact of their actions.”
