You Tube sensation Marcus Butler
Marcus Butler has 7.9 million fans worldwide - yet in his home city he is virtually unknown.
The 20-year-old video blogger has been named the winner of the YouTube Next Up competition after his posts clocked up the staggering number of hits with 55,000 regular subscribers.
Along with £16,000 in prize money he was invited to attend a week's camp at Google HQ in London.
A spokesman for Google, which has owned YouTube since 2006, said: “It's incredible that Marcus has got all these fans from all over the world for his video blogs.
“He has followers in America, Japan, Germany and Australia - but at home he is virtually unknown.”
Marcus, from Hove, puts a weekly video blog up on his YouTube page on topics as wide ranging as what not to say on a first date to how to make the best pizza.
His cheeky persona and quirky humour has attracted a loyal following with fans leaving thousands of comments, tips and suggestions on each video.
He has attracted so many viewers that he has been named an official YouTube partner, allowing him to earn money from his videos.
True to form Marcus was busy making more videos when The Argus tried to call him so he was unavailable to comment.
