Car overturned on A27 in Brighton

A car has overturned in a crash on the A27.

The accident, on the eastbound carriageway, just before the exit for Brighton and the A23, is causing delay.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: "A woman driver was out of the car and was reported to have slight injuries.

"One lane was blocked and there is debris in the carriageway as well as slight damage to the central reservation.

There are traffic delays in the area while rescue and recovery work takes place.

I hope nobody seriously hurt. This is a very quick and very dangerous road, where people cut across 2 lanes to gain access to the A23 slip road...usually without indicating. An accident waiting to happen unfortunately.

Indeed a very dangerous road, due to its straightness and width, and the way a central reservation separates drivers from traffic travelling in the opposite direction. Perhaps the Highways Agency could try narrowing it, putting in some blind bends, and reducing visibility generally. Another suggestion would be to place toll barriers at either end, where a robot chauffeur could join each car and guide them through this treacherous zone.

How is it a dangerous road? The slip road starts at the previous junction, you have easily enough time to safely move into it.

Maybe you could contact the lady involved in the accident and pass your thoughts on traffic management to her. I am sure that they would be very much appreciated at this exact time!!

You are abslutely correct but as the first post said it is a section of road where with alarming regularity some idiots speed in the outside lane and then just cut across to get on the slip road. Obviously it goes without saying that I wish the lady invoved is OK and I am not in anyway saying this is what happened here but it does occur a lot on that section of road.

I'm sure a little chuckle about robot chauffeurs would be just what she needs to get over her 'slight injuries'.

Very dangerous to join it from Brighton at Stanmer Park when all the traffic is queuing to go to the Stadium or Woodingdean. I'm amazed there hasn't been a major accident here. I guess money only gets spent after people die, not before.

The roads aren't the problem, the drivers not paying attention cause the accidents.

What if the Handcross works are extended right down to the A23/A27 junction? That should keep drivers happy until about 2020, possibly beyond.

Yes may be we could, and maybe we might find that she was the cause of this so called accident or maybe not. But of course daring to apportion blame is totally inappropriate isnt it? Cars do just flip on their roofs for no apparent reaosn and we just once again brush the causes under the carpet and wonder why these accidents just keep on happening..

I was the driver if the car in this accident.
Thank you to everybody who has left kind words regarding my safety. I'm ok and very luckily walked away with cuts and bruises.
To all you shallow minded, ignorant, nasty people who have commented who THINK they know what happened, what the cause was and who was to blame... You all need to find another way to fill your sad lives! Maybe go and roll a car at 70mph on a 3 lane dual carriageway, be told you "should be dead", then read all these comments from lowlife people, like yourselves, who know NOTHING about me OR the accident I nearly died in!
