Samurai 'attack' sword found dumped in Brighton

A SAMURAI sword believed to have been used in a savage attack has been found dumped.

Police believe it was the weapon which left a man with his ear almost completely severed after an assault in the early hours of June 16 in Madeira Drive, Brighton.

The victim was with a group of friends when he was attacked by a man swinging a sword around in the air.

After striking several blows, the attacker then fled the scene and a passer-by contacted the emergency services.

A few minutes afterwards, officers were flagged down by a taxi driver by St Peter's Church and arrested the 19-year-old passenger from London on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

He has been bailed until August 10 while police investigate the attack.

The injured man was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and released after treatment.

The sword, with a two-foot long blade and a white ornamental handle, was found amongst some builders materials just east of Burger King on the Lower Esplanade.

Police believe it was the weapon used in the vicious attack.

Detective Constable Caroline Biggs from Brighton CID said: "This is a serious incident involving a very distinctive weapon which we believe other people will have seen. If you did witness the incident or have any information, please call us on 101 quoting serial 350 of 16/06. You can also call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 1111."

A pity this 'samauri' didn't follow the code and ritually disembowel himself when his attack failed.

As long as we have shops that sell these swords , we shall have people buying them , so no surprise this attack happened.
In East Street in Brighton , there is a shop that sells crossbows , knives , swords etc.,,,....so as long as these are easily available , people will be suffering the consequences. Surely its time to re consider these type of shops , and their trading dangerous weapons in our high streets.

Now wild berry, it's unfair to penalize legitimate samauris who have been living their noble hagakure code for many many centuries, just because of one maniac with an ear-amputation compulsion.

I've seen schoolchildren threatening each other with pointed sticks. Why do we still allow pointed sticks to lay around? It's time to reconsider pointed sticks, and the millions of trees that produce them every year. After that we shall have to address the question of stones.

Was the sword ok when found after being dumped? Will it be handed over to a suitable charity for an interim period until a friendly home for it is found? I do hope so.

Well done WildBerry, that's a great point! No, really. Well thought out.
The shop which you refer to is C & H Westons, which has been trading since 1819!!!! I reckon this must make it one of the longest running businesses in Brighton but what the heck, lets shut it down!

Exactly!...Hit the nail on the head!!....In 1819 , selling swords and such weaponry etc., may have been perfectly acceptable.....but not any more....no longer....ENOUGH!!

I feel much blame must also be laid at the feet of the BBC for screening that heinous sword-glamorizing serial "THE FLASHING BLADE" virtually every bloody day in the 1970s.

It is the human factor that determines whether a trigger is pulled, a sword raised or a stone thrown.

Want total safety and 100% caste iron clad guarantees? Do away with the human factor!
