Bus left hanging on Bexhill's De La Warr Pavilion roof in Italian Job tribute

HANG ON A MINUTE: The bus is lowered into position HANG ON A MINUTE: The bus is lowered into position

The Italian Job came to Sussex yesterday when a tipping bus was balanced on the top of the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill.

The exhibition mimicks the finale to the classic Michael Caine film.

Eddie Izzard, who is from Bexhill, is believed to have spent about £70,000 on the exhibition as the event’s main sponsor.

The exhibition is called “Hang On A Minute Lads, I’ve Got A Great Idea...” after the final words spoken by Caine in the film.

In the film, the coach swerves off the road and teeters over a cliff edge in the Italian Alps, while carrying a gang of robbers and their stash of gold.

The vehicle used in the exhibition will be painted in the British team colours of red, white and blue as part of the London 2012 Olympic celebrations.

Mr Izzard said: “As a huge fan of the classic film The Italian Job, I am proud to be the principal sponsor.

“I think this is a perfect time to hang a large bus off the edge of a building in a seaside town.”

Arts Council England said it has given the project a grant of £50,000. The Henry Moore Foundation is also supporting it.

I wonder if Eddie Izzard could also lend me a fiver until the weekend?

Got to agree with that sentiment, haven't you? I mean, how many of us woke up this morning and thought exactly the same thing?

I think we should routinely fill busses with bankers and drive them over Beachy Head, but doubtless some tedious eco-witterer would say we can't because of 'health and safety'

Ok this have a think about this comment. Firstly I agree with your ascertion about driving bankers off the cliffs. But I don't think I have ever come across the idea that people concerned with Eco discussions and issues have ever expressed an interest in health and safety. Maybe you should rewrite the post and change it to "do gooders" or "busy bodies". Eco protesters are concerned mostly with environmental issues and ecological Ideology. Please try again with your whinge. Thanks.

Eco enthusiasts are usually mainlyinterested in acquiring funding and pretending they know more than they actually do. They also speak with a patronizing soft voice, as bad as bankers

Those with interests in Embassy Court and the Saltdean Lido should take a note of How stunning the Black windows are.The contrast is what makes it.
