Sussex Police's finest awarded for actions above and beyond call of duty
THE best of Sussex’s police force are to be recognised at an award ceremony.
The special event at Arundel Castle sees police officers, staff and volunteers from West Sussex Divisional policing teams who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
Among those are PCs Matthew Leech and Lee Versluys who demonstrated outstanding courage when confronted by a man brandishing a gun.
With no thought for their own safety the officers pursued and caught the suspect and recovered the gun.
As a result of their bravery and quick actions no members of the public or officers were injured. Later that day an attempted robbery was reported and linked to the suspect.
West Sussex Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Martin Walker said: "These awards for me are the highlight of the policing year. It's an opportunity to celebrate the support from members of the public alongside the amazing work of officers and staff in West Sussex Division and their commitment to offering the highest standard of service to their community."
