Masked robbers beat elderly couple as they slept
8:36pm Monday 9th July 2012 in News
Three masked men broke into an elderly couple’s home as they slept before assaulting them and forcing them to open their safe.
The trio beat the pair with a weapon and made off with what officers have described as a “large quantity” of cash.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the robbery at a property in Ashington, West Sussex, in the early hours of today (July 9).
The victims, who are both in their 60s, have described two of the suspects as black but added that all three had their faces obscured by scarves.
Detective Sergeant Alex Lowe said, "This is a particularly nasty crime. The victims were at home in a quiet rural part of West Sussex and were attacked at night and assaulted.
“I urge anyone with any information about this matter to contact West Sussex CID and quote Operation Markfield or alternatively Crime Stoppers on 0800 555111."

Why did the couple have a large quantity of cash in a safe in their house? And how did the masked men know it was there?

If, as you appear to be trying to suggest, the couple had the amount of cash they did have either as a result of, or due to, nefarious activities that is a police matter.
Further, had there been any suggestion that such might have been the case, do you honestly think that this would not have been pointed out?
After all, Argus reporters, if many a poster on here is to be taken on face value, tend to use any and all salacious factors to present a story, we would have been told. For no other reason than that it would have made the article more sensational.
