Commuters face delays as London Bridge begins Olympics prep

Commuters out of Sussex are being advised to allow themselves extra time on their journeys this morning as railway station staff prepare for the Olympics.

A rehearsal for the Games is taking place at London Bridge station this morning which meaning commuters will have to change their usual plans.

Entry is allowed through the forecourt and station concourse only with Joiner St and the Vaults exit only and SouthEastern and First Capital Connect customers arriving at platforms 1-6 in the morning will exit by the subway for the forecourt.

A queuing system will be in place and Network Rail advice is for commuters to allow extra time for their journeys.

I shall be doing no such thing. Nobody's gonna pay me an extra hour's wages so I'm not getting out of bed an extra hour early to squeeze on to another of their woefully cramped trains. I bet Lord Coe didn't have to get up an hour earlier for his chauffeur this morning.

One might suggest that you probably don't work anyway given you seem to find time to post pointless rubbish on virtually every Argus story.

Oh, I wouldn't call it rubbish. Some of it is highly entertaining and as for pointless ... quite a bit is rather thought provoking provided you are willing to spend a couple of seconds to engage the braincells ;)

If I wasn't stuck at work, bored out of my mind, I wouldn't have to try and keep myself sane by posting on the Argus, would I?!?

Certainly not me! Not since I got arrested after the last time. I didn't know it was illegal to show your bum in public.

Explain how making commuters travel to work early can help the rail companies see if their new system would work, same amount of commuters going into work an hour early. If they were doing a rehearsal for an emergency situation that would be a whole different story

No it wouldn't. Emergencies by their very definition tend not to give a few days notice before occurring; thereby enabling commuters to forward plan their travel arrangements.

Having said that, if they cannot deal with commuters whilst dealing with the Olympics ... But what am I saying ... this is the railways we are talking about. The saints and all who sail in her forbid we expect them to cope with anything but perfect rolling conditions, no commuters and plenty of funds to play with their train-sets ;)

For the record, there were no queues or delays this morning (8.40am) at London Bridge due to the "Stress Test".....even the Jubilee and Northern lines were operating a "good service" at the same time - something of a rarity!

Agreed Wiggsy, but im a touch worried you've jinxed the return journey!

Well my workplace was full of people coming in half an hour late this morning, saying they couldn't get on several trains because they were full.

Anyways, can I suggest a improved system for use of carriages leaving Brighton during commuting hours: staff should be given large rubber ink-stamps with the words "SELFISH BERK" on them, and stamp them on the foreheads of anyone who tries to keep two seats to themselves using a coat or bag. (The coat or bag should also be incincerated). Should work a charm.

I had no problem travelling through London Bridge this morning, or this evening
If anything it was much quieter
Headlines like commuters face delays & commuters confused / baffled / bewildered are obviously penned by people who have not been there
