A pensioner is celebrating after reaching the finals of a national photography competition.

David Cole, 71, beat 3,600 entrants to be named as one of six finalists in the Prince’s Countryside Fund’s Life in the Country competition.

Mr Cole’s photograph, entitled “Secret Countryman”, took first prize in the wildlife category of the competition winning him £500.

Mr Cole, a former national newspaper photographer from Petworth, said: “I spent over 50 years as a photographer and I’m still doing it for fun.”

A public vote to pick an overall winner runs until July 16. to vote visit www.greatbritishlife.co.uk.

I can assure you they don't take pictures of the bl**dy things over here. The moment you see a molehill you put down a trap, and if your lucky to catch one you drown the pest. You really need to see what these vermin can do to a good lawn.

They do, not that i agree, wont touch the stuff or eat veal, i am talking about a bl**dy pest. Hope you don't get one in your garden Dcole100, you will be begging me for one of my traps.

Not sticking up for the French, but their not to clever in England with what they do to animals. Many years ago i refused to deliver to Golden Produce in Lymington over how they killed the chickens. Barbaric.

Oh come on Vic - you want to crush the body of a little velvety critter that only wants to stay out of sight and eat worms ? (agree about the chicken bit though)

Think i will catch one alive and release it at the Amex, little velvety critters. Plenty of photo's then. Gus will be fuming.
