Shortened ice show costs Brighton council £180k

A popular skating show’s decision to cut down to just three days has cost the city at least £180,000.

Last year 37,000 tickets were sold for the Holiday on Ice extravaganza at the Brighton Centre, which lasted for two weeks.

In 2009 the show was three weeks long. But this year the show’s promoters said the run had been dramatically shortened due to international commitments.

In a budget forecast report to Brighton and Hove City Council, it has been revealed the decision has cost the venue £180,000.

This is without the knock-on effect of spending in bars, restaurants and other attractions.

The tour, celebrating its 34th year in Brighton, will arrive in the city on November 22 rather than its usual slot in January.

Your venue, your job to keep it functioning. That is the reality of business.

A forecasted budget figure is not an actual figure so no loss, in cash terms has or will happen. If anything it is a 'paper' loss only which is based on historical data with no value.

The story omits the details on who wrote 'a report to B&HCC' and the date of the report, which could be 12 months or more old and would be a forecast only.

What is actually happening is the show will be shorter than in the last. It is up to the Managers of the BC to book replacement shows and events.

Ah ... but what's the betting they will use it as an excuse for yet another slash in services somewhere?

The most important question is whether profitable alternatives have been booked instead.

According to the budget report it is complaining about a loss of £180,000.

Does that sound like profitable alternatives have been booked instead?

Complacency isn't merely a Green attribute. It is however always bad business practise ;)
