Man undergoes facial surgery after being beaten by gang

A 36-year-old man has undergone facial reconstruction surgery after being beaten by a gang of youths.

At least four teenage boys are thought to have set upon the man who lives in a privately owned double decker bus in Lewes.

As a result of the attack on Sunday (July 8) the man suffered broken bones to his face and had to undergo maxiofacial surgery.

Detective Sergeant Julie Dow, from East Sussex CID, said: "Throughout Sunday evening police received calls from concerned residents about a group of rowdy youths seen drinking and hanging around a red VW car in Spring Gardens car park.

“At some time around 11.30pm the victim came out of his bus and confronted these youths, and was consequently attacked.

"We are investigating the circumstances that led up to the assault and would like to hear from anyone who saw or heard any suspicious activity.”

Four local teenage boys have already been arrested on suspicion of assault, three of whom along with a 35-year-old man have also been arrested in connection with drug offences.

All five have been bailed for eight weeks pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information should call101 quoting serial 1560 of 8/7 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
