Pair arrested after Mercedes Benz theft

Two men who stole a valuable Mercedes Benz have been arrested.

The 23 and 27-year-olds had pretended to be interested in buying the 2011 plated car and organised to meet the seller at an address in Crawley.

They arrived in a silver Vauxhall Astra around 5.50pm on Monday (July 9).

Within minutes, one of them jumped into the Mercedes and sped off.

The owner informed police and they were soon able to track them down on the M25.

Both men were arrested and the Mercedes was undamaged.

PC Tom Hawkins, said: "This was a very bold act of theft.

“Thankfully the victim informed police immediately and along with helpful directional information from their neighbour and excellent communication between local and Road Policing officers we were able to locate the suspects.”

The men, who are not local to Crawley, were interviewed yesterday evening (July 10).
