Police officer hurt in 999 pursuit crash
11:40am Sunday 15th July 2012 in News
A police officer suffered a broken arm and dislocated shoulder in a crash during a pursuit.
The female response officer was injured after the car she was travelling in collided with another car it was attempting to overtake in Nyewood Lane near Stocker Road, Bognor, at around 9pm on Wednesday.
The police car was responding to an emergency call with blue lights and sirens in Nyetimber Lane looking for a suspect who had run off after being approached by an officer.
The car was chasing the suspect when it collided with another vehicle and then hit a garden wall.
A 53-year-old woman from Bognor who was driving the black Golf which collided with the police car was treated at the scene for shock.
The police officer was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Sergeant Stewart Goodwin, from West Sussex Roads Policing Unit, said: “I’d like to thank drivers for their patience as the road was closed for around two hours while the casualties were attended to and the road made safe.”
Any witnesses to the accident are asked to call 101 quoting serial 1779 of 11/7.

I have to admit I'm a little confused. On the one hand the article states the police officer suffered a broken arm and a dislocated shoulder - either of which would need hospital attention. On the other, it says that they received attention at the scene for "minor injuries". Tis either one or the other..,... Either way hope they're ok.

Careless driving, I hope the driver of the Golf is compensated & the police driver prosecuted.
I was nearly killed by uniform thugs whilst crossing Western Rd at night...speeding with no lights... no blues and twos... nothing...nada... lunatics. How did I know they were thugs?... Because I instinctively gave a Churchillian salute as I leapt for my life and ...and i kid you not...the barstewards screeched to a halt, reversed at speed and arrested me. This was par for the course in the Seventies when one walked around as a punk.

Was the driver of the police car driving safely to the road and weather conditions? If so, then why crash into a car you are overtaking?
I'm sure nothing will happen to the police driver....At least no one was killed.

Maybe the police car was overtaking quite lawfully when the car it was overtaking suddenly & without warning turned right into it's path. I don't know that that is what happened but neither do you. Let's not rush to judge people. I agree with your last line - at least no-one was killed.

It was the Police Vehicle that caused the accident. Your constant attacking of anyone who happens to either criticise either this newspaper or the Police is tiresome in the extreme.

I would suggest that you do the cause of all your fellow knee jerk reaction police haters no good at all with your ill informed comments.
I'll ask again, did you see the accident? If you come on here and state for a 'fact' that it was the police driver's fault then you need to be able to back up your 'facts'.

Whilst I did not witness the accident, neither did you, what I DO know and you patently do not, is the lady involved and she has been informed that the Police Driver is suspended from driving and following further investigation she will be fully recompensed for the vehicle damage after they complete the investigation. Her insurance company have instigated a claim process and are assessing her injuries which are still being dealt with through counseling, she feels she may not drive again. No action is being taken against her and indeed she has not received a caution, only apologies. This incident was NOT an emergency either. Please, save the name calling and boorish banter for your canteen get togethers with D360 and the others.

Your obnoxious tone and that of your fellow apologist D360, leaping to the defence of the Police and then so very conspicuous by your absence when time after time it is proved that they have erred is only surpassed by your name calling of other posters. Ambulance Driver...PLEASE!

What YOU don't know is that the emergency services will almost always settle out of court regardless of who is at fault as a court case will always cost them a lot more. It's also blatantly obvious that the police driver involved would be suspended pending an inquiry so that's hardly conclusive proof of anything is it? As I've already said I, like yourself, wasn't there so don't know the facts. The difference is I know how emergency service vehicle claims are settled. My organisation has an insurance policy with a £10,000 excess so it's far cheaper just to pay up. Kind of knocks your 'proof' out of the water doesn't it?
No go trolling on another forum.
