  • "I would say that it was mainly to do with the man speeding....the facts are... his car practically ripped the boot end off the lady's car, lifting it into the air and then his car still at a high speed went on and then flipped a few times and then landed in Roedean school field, which is at least 50 metres away.30 mph doesn't do that. If he hadn't of been speeding the lady would have managed to turn right and get into Roedean Road well before he got there,it is a 30 zone up until the Roedean Road.I know all this as I was in Roedean Road approaching the give way onto the coast road, slamming on my brakes as a load of debris hit my car and the lady's car headed towards me.
As for the person moaning about how long it took to clean up...most of the first hour after the emergency services arrived was taken up by the Fire crew having to cut the roof off and front windshield off so the ambulance crew could get the lady out as safely as they could...what do you expect them to do just yank her out of the the shattered sunroof and probably cause more damage to her!! ,there was also a huge amount of debris all over the road, that would have needed clearing.Plus all the police work that would have needed doing so they can actually work out who is actually at fault. The fire crew, police and ambulance staff have to do their jobs properly, And they do a bloody good job when they are faced with things most of us would never want to face not even once in our lives. So don't whinge because they want to make sure they get things right.
I moved to Saltdean about 3 months ago and have since used the coast road a huge amount of times to get home, and in all that time I have never driven behind someone on that part of the coast road and only on a couple of occasions have I had cars traveling behind me....meaning almost every single person has over taken me with a lot of them going at around 50mph...they get past the Marine Gate building and onto the duel carriageway bit and just put their foot down.It is still a 30 zone there!!"

An 86-year-old woman is in a serious condition after a two car smash on Brighton seafront yesterday evening (July 19).

The accident happened soon after 6.15pm on Marine Drive at the junction with Roedean Road.

The elderly woman's green Toyota was travelling west along the road when it hit a black Audi travelling in the opposite direction.

Fire crews had to cut the 86-year-old local women free before she was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

The 34-year-old male Audi driver received only minor injuries

The road was closed until 10.30pm while emergency services tended to the drivers and cleared the road.

Police are appealing for witnesses and have asked anyone who saw what happened to call them on 101 quoting operation Priory.
