Brighton school's head on a four-day week
3:00pm Monday 23rd July 2012 in News
A Brighton primary school has appointed a new head who will be working a four-day week.
Giovanni Franceschi has left Stanford Junior School, in Stanford Road, Brighton, after six years to take up the post at Downs Junior School in Rugby Road, Brighton.
Governors have announced that Gina Hutchins, formerly head teacher at Woodingdean Primary, will be working as interim head from September.
Mrs Hutchins will work four days a week but governors have said there will be no change to the way the school operates.
In a letter to parents Denise Anderson, chairwoman of governors at Stanford Junior School, wrote: “The governors were seeking to secure an experienced head teacher to cover in an interim role pending the appointment of a new head teacher.
“We believe that this is the best way to maximise stability for the school at this time.
“I am pleased that we have agreed to appoint on this temporary basis, Gina Hutchins.
“Gina has held two previous headships in Brighton at Middle Street Primary and most recently at Woodingdean Primary.
“Gina comes highly recommended for this role and the governors are confident that she will be able to lead the school during this transition period.”
Speaking to the Argus, Ms Anderson said: “Mr Franceschi is not in every day so we are not doing anything different.
“We have a deputy head who will be in charge on the other day. We have not yet run any recruitment for the post.”
Ms Anderson did not say how long Mrs Hutchins would be in the post, but said that a full-time appointment will be made after a recruitment drive in September.
