The RNLI were launched early this morning (July 26) to rescue two drunk teens in a slowly sinking dinghy.

The Brighton crew received the call at 6.21am after a nearby boat raised the alarm.

When they pulled up alongside the dinghy they found the pair desperately paddling against a strong offshore wind.

Crew members said that the teens were poorly prepared for sea with not only a faulty engine but also no way of calling for help.

The Helmsman added that they appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and not "of sound judgement".

They were towed back to Brighton Marina by the lifeboat where they were met by Sussex Police.

An RNLI spokesman said: "Summer appears to have arrived for our volunteers here in Brighton with four launches in a little over 24hrs.

“As this excellent weather continues we would urge anyone heading to the beach to take extra care. It is important to check the tides and check your equipment.”

“These individuals are incredibly lucky as they had no means of calling for help.

“They owe their lives to the crew members of the boat which spotted them.

“Today looks like another fantastic day and I'm sure many tens of thousands will flock to the beach. But please do take care, particularly with this off shore wind."

Oh yes, because every teenager's action (bearing in mind 18 and 19 are teenagers) are their parents' fault. Of course.

Well, let's be fair- abortion was legal 20 years ago, and birth control was certainly widely used...

Should have let them go down with their boat - its called "Natural Selection". Do we honestly want these two polluting the gene - pool?

Maybe these teenagers should be required to do some voluntary community work ... both as a thank you for their timely rescue and a lesson that community volunteering requires effort and commitment.

Lets hope these two have a conscience and donate a sizable amount to the RNLI.

Oh for pity's sake ... few and far in between are the teenagers who haven't done something they will later regret.

Must be more to it ..... 6.20 in the morning in an inflatable with an outboard motor, 2 teenage drunks just happen to go out to sea because of the good weather .....where did the boat come from, how did they get it down to the beach and why didn't the boat who reported them not rescue them.
